Capture 365 Day 10

Today's prompt was "A Doorway", so I got to take a shot of our still festively decorated door.
I am loving this challenge, and am so proud that I have made it 10 straight days. I'm a third of the way to the 30 day mark, and apparently 30 days makes a habit. I am so focused on getting there. Want to try it out yourself? Head over to Capture Your 365 for the prompts.

I am also 30 days in to my 5-year diary, the second big project I took on this year. I used to journal a lot, and really enjoyed it. I drifted away from it however when I sometimes felt like I had nothing to say. My 5 year journal is based on answering a question a day in a sentence or two, and then answering the same question on the same day for the next few years. I found my prompts through Get It Scrapped, and am finding them incredibly helpful. I actually look forward to answering my question each day. If you're interested in trying it yourself, the questions for January and February can be found here.

Capture 365 Day 8 & 9

Yesterday's prompt "Blue" was a bit of a challenge for me. I only have a half hour for lunch most days, so all of my photo taking is limited to before and after work. Right now, that generally means before and after the sun is out. I wanted a great sky pic, but no luck by the time I left the office. Upon arriving home, I found a few possible subjects, but couldn't find good ways to light them. I finally settled on getting a shot of a bunch of different blues in my nail polish collection. I think it turned out OK.
For today's prompt, the big challenge was finding a clean patch of snow. While winter can be gorgeous, when the snow and ice are fresh, it can also be really ugly after a couple of days. Most of the snow and ice are dull and grey now that we've had a few days of rain. Managed to find a nice snow bank outside my apartment on my way home. I'm all bundled up in my wind pants and snow boots. I don't care how silly they look, at least I am warm when I have an extended wait for the bus.

Capture Your 365 Day 7

Today's topic was Natural Treasure. This theme would have been fine a few days ago, when the snow and ice was gorgeously coating the trees, but here in Halifax, we have had a ton of rain, then a little more snow over the past couple of days. Outside is a all a gross shade of soggy grey. Bleh. So, I had to seek inspiration inside. In this house, plants are not safe. I always have the best of intentions, but inevitably forget to water them. Amazingly, this little bamboo plant has managed to start a new sprout, despite my neglect.
I'm finding it interesting to stage some of these indoor photos. Playing with different fabrics, and textures for backdrops, and finding good lighting is all new to me, so it is quite an adventure. If you're looking for inspiration to pick up your camera more this year, check out Capture Your 365 to play along.

So long 2013, Welcome 2014

It's been a while since I posted here. I had too much on my plate and needed some downtime. I have decided that 2014 will be the year that I explore my creativity, so have taken on a few projects to help me with that. The first major one is a 365 photo challenge inspired by Capture Your 365. Since we are a few days into the month I already have some photos to share, so here we go.
If you'd like to play along, I strongly encourage you to check out the website, as the daily prompts are great for getting the creative juices flowing. I will try to post daily from now on, and will discuss some of my other projects in the coming weeks.
